A new class of UT Knoxville Alumni Board of Directors members are poised to have an impact on the university by enriching the lives of students and engaging alumni and friends. Sixteen new members were welcomed into the ranks of the board along with returning members in an induction ceremony and dinner held on campus Thursday, September 21, in the executive dining room of the Student Union.

Guests at the event enjoyed refreshments and hors d’oeuvres and mingled to piano music as they waited for the formal ceremony to begin. As it did, they toasted and were welcomed by Duane Wiles, associate vice chancellor for alumni relations.

“Tonight, as we welcome the newest officers and directors of our alumni board, I am reminded of our vision to be a key leader in the university’s mission by fostering a strong culture of lifelong engagement and philanthropy,” Wiles said. “We are committed to enhancing UT Knoxville’s brand, amplifying engagement of alumni and friends, increasing philanthropic support, strengthening student engagement, and developing our team.”

Brian Broyles, interim vice chancellor for advancement, called the names of the individual board members, asking them to stand for recognition among those gathered. He then led the board in its swearing-in and welcomed the members.

“You have been chosen to preside over the destiny of the UT Knoxville Alumni community for the coming year,” Broyles said. “Your experience, zeal and loyalty to UT make you an admirable board of directors. The honor of being a member of the UT Knoxville Alumni Board of Directors carries with it certain responsibilities. It will be your solemn duty to work with the board president, other elected officers, the Office of Alumni Relations, and the membership to advance the university and to faithfully perform the duties of your office.”
