MAJ Griswold graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1969. He was commissioned as an Infantry second lieutenant and was later rebranched into Special Forces.
MAJ Griswold served with the 509th ABN in Germany and then in Vietnam with Military Assistance Command-Vietnam (MACV) from 1971–1972 where he was an advisor to the RVN Airborne Division. During that tour, he was heavily engaged against the NVA forces during the 1972 Easter Offensive. Upon returning the U.S., he served with the 5th Special Forces Group (ABN) and later served as Commander of a covert Special Forces unit known as Detachment A, Berlin Brigade in occupied Berlin. He completed his career as the first Special Operations instructor at the U.S. Army’s Command and General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth. MAJ Griswold retired in 1989.
Following military retirement, MAJ Griswold served as a Subject Matter Expert with the Battle Command Training Program (BCTP) at Ft. Leavenworth and traveled with deploying units to Bosnia and Kosovo for Peace Keeping Operations and assistance. He contributed to BCTP warfighter seminars, lectures, and conferences. MAJ Griswold is a published author. Prior to his civilian retirement in 2010, MAJ Griswold trained internal security forces in the UAE.
MAJ Griswold retired in 2010. He and his wife, Debbie, currently reside in Lansing, Kansas.
