Stefan Duma, PhD, is a professor and head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Virginia Tech, part of the joint Virginia Tech–Wake Forest School of Biomedical Engineering and Sciences. He oversees 51 faculty members and manages over $25 million in annual research expenditures. As the founding director of the Center for Injury Biomechanics, Duma has secured funding from major agencies including the NIH, CDC, NSF, DOT-NHTSA, DOD, and industry leaders like Toyota, Ford, and GM. He has authored more than 200 technical papers, including 80 peer-reviewed journal articles, and has received numerous honors such as the AAAM Best Scientific Paper Award (2004, 2007), multiple student paper awards from AAAM and the Stapp Conference. He is also a Fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine (AAAM).
