2024 Alumni Service Award Winner

An ESPN Senior Writer, Ryan McGee is a regular contributor to ESPN.com, SportsCenter, E:60, and SEC Nation. McGee also co-hosts Marty & McGee, which airs Saturday mornings on SEC Network and ESPN Radio, discussing everything from college sports to motorsports to mullets.

McGee has authored five books, including the New York Times bestseller Racing to the Finish with Dale Earnhardt Jr.; the 2020 college football memoir Sidelines and Bloodlines, written with his father and brother; and the 2023 release Welcome to the Circus of Baseball, about his summer working for a minor league baseball team.

After graduating from the College of Communication and Information (CCI) in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in broadcasting, McGee started with ESPN working on the production staffs of SportsCenter and RPM2Night and contributing to ESPN The Magazine. He has worked as a show producer for FOX Sports Net and served as editor-in-chief at NASCAR Productions, penning the script for the documentary film Dale. He is a six-time Sports Emmy winner; an eight-time National Motorsports Press Association Writer of the Year; and a member of the Football Writers Association of America, National Collegiate Baseball Writers, and national board member of the National Sports Media Association.

He currently serves on CCI’s Board of Visitors. He provides visionary leadership to the dean as the college works to prepare students for success in industry. McGee is a donor to CCI, giving for 16 years to his alma mater. He is a regular guest lecturer, offering advice and networking support. McGee also served as CCI’s 2023 commencement speaker.

McGee lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, with wife Erica, whom he met in class at UT, and daughter Tara.
