A 2014 graduate industrial engineering from UT Tickle College of Engineering, Nathan Irwin serves as Chief Operating Officer at North Knoxville Medical Center. Irwin leads a dynamic effort to improve operational efficiencies among a variety of service settings to enhance the delivery of care in Northern Knox County and beyond. North Knoxville Medical Center is a 172-bed acute care hospital that treats on average about 40,000 patients per year in its emergency room and excels in the treatment of medical, surgical, and oncological patients.
Irwin was named Chief Operating Officer for two hospitals before the age of 35. In Irwin’s previous nine years in hospital leadership, he worked to improve access to women’s imaging services as Chief Operating Officer of Tennova Cleveland in Cleveland, Tennessee. While under Irwin’s supervision, the hospital received a state recognition for its women’s program and was named Best in Babies. It also received Blue Cross Blue Shield’s Blue Distinction Award for Women’s Services. As Chief Operating Officer with HCA Healthcare’s Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center, Irwin oversaw the construction and opening of a $20 million,12-bed freestanding emergency center in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Furthermore, Nathan is active as a leader on Rocky Top and in the community, mentoring students from UT’s Heath Integrated Business and Engineering Program and serving previously as a board member with Junior Achievement of the Ocoee Region. Irwin resides with his wife, Ashley, and their two-year-old daughter, Riley, in Norris, Tennessee.
