Dr. Michael Thigpen is a seasoned global health expert and senior medical officer at PATH, bringing over two decades of experience in infectious disease research and clinical trials. He previously served as Chief of Clinical Trials at the US Military HIV Research Program and held multiple leadership roles at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), working in Cambodia, Thailand, Botswana, and the U.S. His work has focused extensively on HIV prevention, care, and treatment, with a strong foundation in regulatory requirements and informed consent processes. Dr. Thigpen earned his MD from Vanderbilt University and a diploma in tropical medicine and hygiene from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. His expertise spans clinical research, global health systems, and strategic public health response, most recently contributing to efforts to strengthen digital health systems across Africa through PATH’s partnership with the Africa CDC.
