Looking Across the River From Campus

Category: News

UT Knoxville Alumni’s corporate partner, One Riverwalk Apartments sits along the Tennessee riverfront in South Knoxville. Where once stood the former Baptist Hospital, now stands a luxurious, vibrant residential community. Now Knoxvillians can live along the riverfront, perfectly positioned between downtown and the up-and-coming Sevier Avenue. You can even hear Neyland celebrating when the Vols score a touchdown.

Knoxville native Vic Mills, co-founder and CEO of Southeastern Development which owns the property, holds a personal connection to this land – his grandmother was once a cashier in the former Baptist Hospital cafeteria.

“This property exceeded expectations from the very beginning,” said Mills. “We feel like we are truly a catalyst for South Knoxville because our property invites people to do more than come down here for a Friday night drink or a Sunday bike ride, but to move to the area and embrace everything it has to offer.”
A few years ago, South Knoxville looked much different. In January 2019, the Knoxville City Council approved a multi-million-dollar project to revitalize South Knoxville and Sevier Avenue. One Riverwalk is just one of the many businesses breathing new life into the area. From Alliance and Hi-Wire Breweries, South Coast Pizza and Simpl., to Everything Mushrooms, a wide-range of new local businesses are attracting people to the South Knoxville area.

The riverfront is also next door to some of East Tennessee’s finest nature parks and trails, ready to be explored. Parks like Suttree Landing Park and Baker Creek Reserve offer miles of river walks and bike trails, playgrounds, and kayak launches.
One Riverwalk offers several 1- and 2-bedroom floor plan options for residents, ranging from 450 sq. ft. to 1213 sq. ft. It also boasts amenities like a resort inspired saltwater pool, a community clubhouse with a bar, and a fitness center featuring a yoga studio and spin room. Its public amenities – the river walk, civic plaza and 37,000 sq. ft. event space – are open to everyone, resident or not, to come enjoy the property.

“One Riverwalk has brought roughly 2,000 people into the South Knoxville area,” said Taryn Long, Property Manager for One Riverwalk. “We want our apartments to foster growth within this community, introduce people to everything South Knoxville has to offer, as well as support its economic development.” Volunteers have a proud legacy as community bridge-builders. Now, anyone can be just a bridge away from campus.
