2016 Alumni Professional Achievement Award Winner
Larry Carroll graduated from the Haslam College of Business with his MBA in 1978 and established Carroll Financial Associates in Charlotte, North Carolina, with a simple approach to financial planning: “The best interest of the client is the only interest that matters.” His firm now manages and oversees more than $3.3 billion in assets operating under that same core philosophy.
Carroll has been included 12 times in Worth magazine’s listing of the nation’s most exclusive wealth managers and has served as national chairman of the Financial Planning Association. Twice, he has been selected one of Forbes’ Top 200 Wealth Advisors, and the publication named him the number one financial advisor in North Carolina in 2018. He has been quoted in numerous national newspapers, magazines, and TV newscasts.
He and his wife, Vivian, are actively involved in supporting many local charities, notably the YMCA of Greater Charlotte, the American Red Cross, the Cultural and Heritage Foundation of York County, the Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region, and three universities—Austin Peay State, Winthrop, and UT.
UT has received generous financial support from Carroll, who believes strongly in the importance of higher education. He has also donated his time as a member of the finance department advisory council for the Haslam College of Business and frequently mentors students and speaks to classes.
