Colonel Larry Greene graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1968 and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Infantry. After completion of the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Ranger School and Airborne School, he was assigned to the 6th Special Forces Group.
After graduation from the Special Forces Officer and Military Advisor’s Course he served in Vietnam as advisor to Vietnamese Infantry and Ranger battalions and as a reconnaissance team leader in the 5th Special Forces Group. After service in Vietnam, he served as Chief of Special Forces Light Weapons Course, Operations Officer of the Special Forces Recon School, and Executive Officer of the Special Forces Underwater Course.
He left active duty in 1973 but then served as a reservist in the 82nd Airborne, 5th and 10th Special Forces Groups, Special Forces and Special Operations Commands. In 1995, he was recalled and served in Turkey and northern Iraq. He retired from Special Operation Command in 2000. In 2004, he was recalled from retirement and served in Iraq, USCENTCOM, and Special Operations Command Korea. His awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and the Combat Infantryman Badge 2nd award. Greene spent over 37 years of service in the US Army.
After his second military retirement in 2010, he taught English as a Second Language at the University of Texas, Dallas.
Greene and his wife, Anne, reside in McKinney, Texas.
