Minnesota Vikings quarterback Joshua Dobbs (’17) is at the helm.

The UT Alumni Board of Directors has enjoyed a long line of talented leadership with, most recently, Vol for Life Joshua Dobbs (’17) stepping up to serve as board president. Dobbs is quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings, and his support of UT is extensive. He has invested in scholarships in areas ranging from the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Biomedical Engineering to the National Society of Black Engineers and the Pride of the Southland Band.

Dobbs was an aerospace engineering major during his time at UT and upon graduating in 2017 was honored as a Torchbearer, the university’s highest undergraduate honor, granted for leadership in carrying the Volunteer spirit. That year he joined the Pittsburgh Steelers NFL team and would later go on to hone his aerospace engineering skills as an NFL extern working as a systems engineer at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center.

“As a UT alumnus I’m always excited to give back to this great institution,” Dobbs said recently. “Our university is on the rise and experiencing historic growth, and there has never been a better time to be a Volunteer.”
Dobbs’ goal for the board this year is to raise $70,000 in funds to match scholarship donations, an increase from last year’s ambitious $60,000 goal. This creates dollar-for-dollar matches during Big Orange Give, UT’s annual day of giving, so that donors can double their impact on the areas of campus most meaningful to them. Dobbs also seeks to proactively engage other Vols for Life in alumni programs and events, as well as support the UT LEAD program through the board’s Vols Pay-It-Forward Alumni Speaker Series. UT LEAD seeks to foster undergraduate achievement and drive academic distinction for first-generation college students.

Established in 2009 the Alumni Board of Directors includes Vols from many walks of life and reflects the university’s alumni population. Its vision is to be a key leader in the university’s mission by fostering a strong culture of lifelong engagement and philanthropy.

“We are committed to enhancing UT Knoxville’s brand, amplifying engagement of alumni and friends, increasing philanthropic support, strengthening student engagement, and developing our team,” said Duane Wiles, associate vice chancellor for alumni relations. “The members of our board are admirable in their passion and loyalty for the university, and they truly exemplify the Volunteer spirit in leading the charge for alumni support.”
