Lieutenant Colonel John Skidmore graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1974 and was commissioned as a second lieutenant into the Field Artillery Corps.
He served in a series of command and staff positions of increasing responsibility in artillery section, battery, and battalion-level units. In addition, his exceptional abilities were instrumental for selection to key positions such as Fort Leavenworth commanding general aide-de-camp, Department of the Army inspector general staff, and US Army Pacific, Chief of Plans Division, deputy chief of staff for operations.
Following his retirement from active duty in 2000, Skidmore served in Huntsville, Alabama, as a contractor engaged in developing battle/ missile defense sensors and fire control and launch equipment software. Returning to his native Tennessee roots, his dedication to his community is demonstrated by his service on the Franklin County Zoning and Planning Commission.
Skidmore and his wife, June, reside in Winchester, Tennessee.
