Colonel Chris Mills graduated from the University of Tennessee in May 1993 and was commissioned as an Aviation Branch second lieutenant.
He served in multiple Aviation assignments to include duty with the 101st Aviation Brigade, Fort Campbell, KY and Commander, D/1-214th Aviation Regiment, Heidelberg, Germany. Additionally, Mills performed as Deputy Commander, of the Stabilization Force (SFOR) flight detachment in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina supporting the NATO-led multinational peacekeeping force. In 2003, he earned a Master of Science in Aviation Systems from the University of Tennessee Space Institute.
His Army acquisition assignments include Assistant Project Manager Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter Program and Product Manager Armed Reconnaissance Helicopters, Project Manager (PM) for Precision Fires Rocket and Missile Systems. In July 2019, Mr. Mills was assigned as the Project Manager for the Common Hypersonic Glide Body, an integral part of the Army Long Range Hypersonic Weapon System that provided glide bodies for joint hypersonic missile systems across DoD. In that position, Colonel Mills successfully transitioned production of the hypersonic glide body from Sandia and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories to industry resulting in delivery of the first industry built operational hypersonic glide vehicle. Colonel Mills retired from active duty in 2023.
Mills entered Army Civil Service in June 2023 and serves as Deputy Director, Army Hypersonic Program Office, US Army Rapid Capability and Technology Office.
Mills and his wife, Jennifer, reside in Huntsville, Alabama.
