George M. Massey (’62)

LTC Massey graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in June 1962 and was commissioned as an Infantry second lieutenant.

LTC Massey commanded Operational Detachments in the 10th Special Forces in Germany and with the 5th Special Forces in Vietnam where his detachment built a Special Forces fighting camp. His two tours in Vietnam spanned from 1966-1967 and from 1970-1971. During his second tour in Vietnam, he served as a senior advisor for two Vietnamese Ranger Battalions. Between tours in Vietnam, he commanded the US Army Infantry Center Scout Dog Detachment. He served as Assistant Professor of Military Science at Vanderbilt University after completing a Master’s degree there and Professor of Military Science at Eastern Washington University. After his time at Vanderbilt, he served as an executive officer with the 2nd Battalion, 30th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division in Germany. LTC Massey’s Army retirement came in 1983.

LTC Massey returned to his native Tennessee and was active in establishing Junior ROTC units in Williamson County. He later served as Vice President of the Peoples Bank of Elk Valley, Fayetteville, TN. He concluded his professional career as the Chief Operating Officer and Plant Manager for Formall, Inc., a thermoforming plastics firm. He retired from his civilian career in 2003.

LTC Massey and his wife, Faye, reside in Knoxville, Tennessee.
