BG Freeman graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in December 1978 and was commissioned as a Signal Corps second lieutenant. He served as Communications-Electronics Staff Officer (CESO) in Armor and Infantry Divisions and as a Signal unit staff officer and Company Commander.
In 1992, Freeman left active duty. He entered the active reserve in March 1993 and served in various staff and command positions within the Signal community.
In July 2007, he deployed to Kuwait in support of the Global War on Terrorism and assumed command of the 335th Signal Command (Theater) (Provisional) on 2 August 2007. In this capacity, he also served as the Army Theater Signal Officer and U.S. Army Central’s (USARCENT) G6 and Coalition Forces Land Component Command (CFLCC) C6. In July 2009, he retired from the Army Reserve.
BG Freeman currently serves as Director of Technology for the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, responsible for maintaining the college’s computing infrastructure and providing strategic innovative communication tools and alternative learning platforms.
