Lieutenant Colonel (RET Foster D. Arnett was commissioned in December 1942 as a 2LT in the Infantry Corps. Following service in World War II, he graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in August 1946.
LTC Arnett deployed to the Pacific Theater in 1943 and fought and was wounded in the Battle of Leyete (Philippines). He was awarded the Silver Star and the Purple Heart for his actions in that battle. He participated in one of the three combat jumps the 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment executed in the Philippines.
Following graduation, he continued to serve in the US Army Reserves and retired in 1980.
His civilian career was dedicated to the practice of law. He served as President of the Knoxville (1959-60) and the Tennessee (1968-69) Bar Associations. He also served at President of the University of Tennessee National Alumni Association (1961-62).
