Mr. Vaughn graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 1959 and was commissioned as an Infantry second lieutenant. His first assignment was with the 82nd Airborne Division. He concluded his military duty as an Ordnance officer. He departed active duty in 1961.
Mr. Vaughn served as the CEO and Board Chairman at the Emmet Vaughn Lumber Company in Knoxville until the company ceased operations in 2016. During his years in the lumber industry, he served on the Board of Directors of the National Hardwood Lumber Association and was President of the Appalachian Hardwood Manufacturers Incorporated.
Mr. Vaughn was a well-known and highly respected community leader and worked diligently for many local community and civic organizations. In 1996, he was honored as “Outstanding Civic Leader of East
Tennessee.” Mr. Vaughn was involved in sports his entire life and was Founder of the Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame. In 2017, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame and honored as the Founder. The Hall of Fame has raised thousands of dollars for the Boys and Girls Club of the East Tennessee Valley.
Mr. Vaughn passed away in March 2018.
