Diana Whaley was deeply devoted to her family and faith. After raising her sons, she returned to the University of Tennessee to earn her bachelor’s degree in nursing and went on to serve as an RN with John Tarelton Homes. A passionate volunteer, she served with the American Red Cross in major disaster zones, including 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, the Haiti earthquake, and the Gatlinburg wildfires. For her dedication, she received the prestigious Florence Nightingale Award from the International Committee of the Red Cross. Diana also volunteered with the Gideons, Voice of the Children Haitian mission for 16 years, and the Paulette Volunteer Fire Department. She was a member of New Beverly Baptist Church and previously served at Union Chapel and North Rockwood Baptist Churches. In addition to the Florence Nightingale Award, Diana was recognized as a 2011 UT Outstanding Alumni and among UT’s Top Forty Nurses from 1961 to 2012.
