2014 Alumni Professional Achievement Award Winner
A Nashville native, David Bohan is chairman of bohan, one of the largest and most successful ad agencies in Tennessee, which he founded in 1990.
After earning his BS from the Haslam College of Business in 1970, Bohan worked as a customer service manager for Genesco in Nashville. Soon after, he served for three years as the first assistant commissioner of marketing for the State of Tennessee’s Department of Tourism Development. Under his direction, the state’s tourism marketing program was recognized for its innovation.
He managed the Gaylord Entertainment and State of Tennessee Departments of Economic Development and Tourism advertising and sales promotion campaigns for Eric Ericson & Associates for nine years, served as president of Group III for four years, then formed his own company. Bohan’s client roster has expanded to include the Pigeon Forge Department of Tourism, Frist Center for the Visual Arts, Dollar General, WeGo Public Transit, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, O’Charley’s, and Stein Mart.
Bohan serves on the boards of several organizations in the Nashville area, and his company provides pro bono services for many religious, charitable, and civic organizations. He is a major supporter of the College of Communication and Information, having served on its Board of Visitors for more than a decade and on its Executive Committee for the past 12 years. He also regularly provides agency tours and internship opportunities to advertising students. Bohan has taught as an adjunct professor at UT, won numerous awards for professional and volunteer achievement, and helped fund scholarships for the Nashville Advertising Federation and the College of Communication and Information. In addition, Bohan serves the university as a member of the President’s Council.
Never one to slow down, Bohan continues to serve as chairperson of his agency. He is a regular contributor to industry conferences focusing on developing sustainable corporate culture.
