Dan Hellie joined the NFL Network in 2013 as a host of Total Access. For fifteen years he has covered the NFL, most recently as the sports director for WRC, the NBC-owned station in Washington, DC. During his tenure at WRC, Hellie won two Emmy awards, including one for Best Sports Anchor.
While still at UT, Hellie got his feet wet in the newsroom while working with video at Channel 6. After graduating from the College of Communication and Information in 1997 with a degree in broadcasting, Hellie worked as a reporter and sports anchor in West Palm Beach, Florida; Florence, South Carolina; Alexandria, Minnesota; and Orlando, Florida, where he won the Associated Press Florida Best Feature Story award for a segment on bull riding.
Hellie then joined WRC, where his weekly duties included anchoring the daily sportscasts and hosting Redskins Showtime and the WRC Sports Final on Sunday evenings.
He also covered many sporting events for NBC Washington, including Super Bowls, the NCAA Final Four, PGA events, the Stanley Cup, NBA playoffs, as well as Major League Baseball preseason games. He spent a month in London covering the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Hellie is married to his high school sweetheart, Anne. They live in Manhattan Beach, California, with their two children.
