Brigadier General (RET) Clarence E. Bayless, Jr. graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1965 and was commissioned as a 2LT in the Ordnance Corps.
Upon his release from active duty in 1968, BG Bayless joined the Tennessee Army National Guard and served in the Engineer Corps. His total of over 35 years of military service culminated as Commanding General of the 194th Engineer Brigade.
BG Bayless was extremely active in the American Legion Post 2 (Knoxville) where he served 2 terms as President and also leadership within the American Legion at District and State level. BG Bayless was appointed to the Tennessee State Veteran’s Homes Board by Governor Bredesen and served for 6 years.
