2025 Distinguished Alumni Award Winner

Bob Kesling has been the voice behind some of the most iconic moments in Tennessee Athletics history. From a 1972 walk-on fullback to a broadcasting legend, Kesling began his media career while still a journalism student at UT by working at WIVK-FM radio station, editing the Bill Battle Show and spotting for the iconic John Ward. After graduating, he became WIVK’s Sports Director and later joined WBIR-TV, where he served as Sports Director for 19 years.

In 1999, Kesling was named the “Voice of the Vols,” succeeding John Ward as the lead announcer on the Vol Network. With over 50 years of service, he is the longest-tenured member in the network’s 75-year history. His voice has narrated six Lady Vol national championships, countless football and basketball games, and unforgettable moments like the 2022 football win over Alabama.

Kesling’s accolades include four-time Tennessee Sportscaster of the Year, induction into the Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame, Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame, and Big Brothers Big Sisters Hall of Fame. He has also contributed nationally with CBS, Westwood One, and Fox Sports.

Beyond broadcasting, Kesling is a dedicated community leader, serving on boards for Goodwill, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and the Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame. He also served as United Way of Greater Knoxville’s Campaign Chair.

As Tennessee Athletics Director Danny White said, “Bob has truly given his all for Tennessee.” Kesling’s professionalism, passion, and enduring commitment to the university demonstrated the Volunteer spirit in every one of his Tennessee sports broadcasts.
