Weldon Wright (’19) made waves in academics and athletics during his time on Rocky Top. He now melds those passions as he builds his own digital marketing agency, X World Marketing, and coaches track and field for a local youth foundation. Vols across the country are lighting the way in their corners of the world!
Landra Spieth neé King (’60)
Landra Spieth neé King (’60) made Volunteer history as the first woman to graduate from UT with a degree in chemical engineering. “I was somewhat apprehensive being the first female to enter the men’s turf of chemical engineering. I found faculty and fellow students to be not just accepting but welcoming my presence.” When this trailblazing Vol left Tennessee, she spent many years dedicated to education, leaving an enduring impact.
Carlos Lopez (’16)
Carlos Lopez (’16 ), is bringing #VamosVols energy to Rocky Top! As the Spanish Voice of the Vols, he brings exciting Spanish commentating to Vols Football games, allowing more ears to follow along with interesting insight. Previously Carlos played football at MTSU and the Tampa Bay Storm. He’s currently a Spanish teacher at Alcoa High school and assistant football coach. He’s married to Hannah Lopez and has two children, Nella and Legend. Meg Hutchinson (’19)
Meg Hutchinson (’19) founded her florist company, The Florista, while a student at UT. Meg has provided several floral decorations for numerous #utkalumni events and was recently named a Florists’ Review “35 under 35” recipient!
Leroy Bible (’64)
In honor of the 60th anniversary of his freshman year at UT, Leroy Bible (’64) challenged the Knoxville Alumni Chapter board to a giving campaign. If 60% of his fellow members gave $60, he would match them. We are proud to share the challenge was accomplished!
Colton Griffin (’11)
Colton Griffin (’11) created solutions for the supply chain industry through his work with Genuine Parts Company, where he built and managed a reporting platform deployed to dozens of distribution centers. Griffin is now the CEO of Flourish Software, a leading supply chain management and tracking software solution for the CBD and hemp business.
Brandon Millard (’20)
Not long after his graduation, alumnus Brandon Millard (’20) recently advanced to a Managing Partner for the East Tennessee region at Modern Woodmen of America! Millard focuses on positively impacting the community through his work and is becoming a leader for young professionals.
Dena Oneal (’92)
Dena Oneal (’92) has used her education in Speech Pathology and her experience in Speech Therapy and Behavior Support Specialty to greatly impact the Middle Tennessee area. Oneal gives back to the university by encouraging students to job shadow her, writing welcome letters to incoming freshmen, and working closely with her alumni chapter.
Arthur Anthony (’92, ’93)
Arthur Anthony (’92, ’93) is a retired US Navy Captain and is now the CEO of Clearwater IT. Anthony uses his background and influence to aid future Vols that are interested in the IT and Cyber industry.
Temano Shurland (’92, ’93)
Temano Shurland (’00) serves Deloitte’s largest and most complex clients within the Life Sciences and Health Care Industry. Shurland is the US Health Care Finance Transformation leader and a Partner for Life Sciences and Health Care at Deloitte.
Rachel Rui (’09, ’14)
Rachel Rui (’09, 7rsquo;14) has made remarkable contributions to the university and the Knoxville community. Rui established the Harrison Pang and Rachel Rui International Excellence Endowment and grew the Knoxville Asian Festival significantly.
Dena vonWerssowetz (’07, ’09)
Dena vonWerssowetz (’07, ’09) is the senior marketing director for PepsiCo Global Beverages in Dublin, Ireland. vonWerssowetz has led marketing initiatives for the biggest snack brands in the world, including the initiative she led for the Doritos Super Bowl Program in 2013 that earned the #1 Rated Commercial on the Nielson’s Top Super Bowl Sports Ranking.
Jonathan Perez (’19)
Johnathan Perez (’19) created a partnership with the UT Alumni Association to be the official car buying program for UT alumni. Perez is the executive vice president at CB Auto Group where he brought in 9 million new members in 2020 alone.
Jaclyn Carter (’12)
Jaclyn Carter (’12) was named one of Business Insider’s Top 18 PR pros and publicist for Youtube creators, TikTok stars, and Instagram influencers. Carter has lead award-winning campaigns such as GRAMMY, Peabody, and Tenn Choice for some of today’s top content creators, national festivals, and biggest stars in music.

Camille Calibeo (’19)
Camille Calibeo (’19) known on social media as “The Galactic Gal”, is an Aerospace Business Strategist working on advanced technologies that improve life on Earth and expand humanity’s reach into the solar system. Calibeo has recently stepped into the role of Director of Marketing at SpaceVIP, a space startup focused on making space accessible to everyone around the globe.
Frank Zimmerer (’11)
Frank Zimmerer (’11) influences numerous students serving as the Director of Bands at Antioch High School in Nashville. Zimmerer empowers students to appreciate music daily which has been well received by several of his students who became music majors at UT.
Bill Dabbs (’06)
Bill Dabbs (’06) represents over 4,000 alumni as the President of the Pride of the Southland Marching Band Council. Dabbs is also committed to teaching and was awarded the campus-wide Excellence in Teaching Award in 2019 for his work as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine.
Russ Swafford (’15)
As an elected official of his local school board, Russ Swafford (’15) kickstarted his career as one of the youngest Tennesseans ever elected to public office. Swafford now serves as a US Air Force Captain & Assistant Staff Judge Advocate and also works as a Litigation Associate at Miller & Martin LLC.
Courtney Vick (’12)
Courtney Vick (’12) exemplifies her Big Orange spirit by serving as the Nashville Region Chapter President with a chapter population of over 25,900 UT alumni in the Nashville area.
Tom Hulsey (’76)
As a survivor and health advocate, Tom Hulsey (’76) uses his experiences and passion to make an impact by donating 100% net proceeds from his book, “The Winning Mindset that Saved My Life,” to benefit cancer and heart disease research.
Landon Williams (’06, ’08)
Landon Williams (’06, ’08) helped negotiate the largest deal in baseball history for renowned right-handed pitcher Matt Cain, and is today a Senior Vice President at Capital Markets.
Christina Viviano (’12)
Dr. Christina Viviano (’12) specializes in the geology of Mars and potential habitable environments. Viviano has won over $1.2 million in research grants from NASA and enjoys mentoring underserved students who will one day help shape the future of space exploration.
Andrea Poole (’04)
Andrea Poole (’04) serves as the SNAP Initiatives Supervisor for the Colorado Department of Human Services. Poole’s leadership and policy enhancements ensure that SNAP provides improved food security for over 500,00 Colorado constituents monthly.
Ryan Siebert (’19)
Before joining Deloitte, Ryan Siebert (’19) was awarded Procter & Gamble’s “Innovator of the Quarter” in fall 2020 for saving over $3 million and 80,000 labor hours per year. Siebert also bridged the gap between UT students and the professional world by contributing to record-breaking recruiting seasons for both Procter & Gamble and Deloitte.
Meg Prewitt (’04)
Alumna Meg Prewitt (’04) created the candle “Tennessee Traditions” at her company, Family Tree Candle Company, to benefit student scholarships.
Aliza Dixon (’19)
In the height of COVID-19, Aliza Dixon (’19) collaborated with her team of industrial engineers at a hospital in Augusta, Georgia, to increase their operations and vaccinate up to 20,000 people per week.
Luke Ottinger (’13)
Moving forward with his finance degree, Luke Ottinger (’13) is continuously progressing at corporate and investment bank Truist Securities. Ottinger was recently named Vice President of Leveraged Finance, making him one of the few to held this title before the age of 30.
Ashley Saunders (’10)
A Knoxville News Sentinel 40 Under 40 winner from 2021, Ashley Saunders (’10) is lighting the way at UCOR, a federal environmental cleanup contractor for the Department of Energy. Saunders supervises the construction of historic preservation facilities and conservation efforts.
Elliot Pinson (’11)
Elliott Pinson (’11) is the chief operating officer at Christenson Transportation Inc. He participates in fundraisers with the transportation fraternity, Delta Nu Alpha, and the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals.
James Lytle (’19)
James Lytle (’19) is a graduate from UT’s political science program and is now working as a special assistant at the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, D.C. Lytle accredits his success to the political science department on Rocky Top.
Hancen Sale (’20)
Hancen Sale (’20) is the governmental affairs and policy director at Knoxville Area Association of Realtors. Sale is a trusted voice on data-driven approaches to understanding public policy.
Cynthia Finch (’79, ’81)
Alumna Cynthia Finch (’79,’81) is one of USA TODAY’s Women of the Year! Only one woman from each state receives this distinction. The Tennessee honoree, Finch came out of retirement during the pandemic to serve her community. She was instrumental in getting over 80,000 people tested, vaccinated, and educated about public health.
Marion Hobby (’95)
Vol Nation was represented at Super Bowl LVI this year by Marion Hobby (’95), the Defensive Line Coach for the Cincinnati Bengals! Hobby was named to Tennessee’s 100th Anniversary Team and played for the Vikings and Patriots in the NFL.
Larry Lunsford (’74)
Meet the Vol inspiring generations of college students! Dr. Larry Lunsford (’74) is the co-author of “The First Year: Making the Most of College,” a prevailing freshman textbook at universities and colleges across the country.
Dr. Charlotte Farmer (’96)
Dr. Charlotte Farmer (’96) has been named senior vice president and COO at Underwriters Laboratories. A graduate of the Tickle College of Engineering with her M.S. in chemical engineering, Farmer is a 2021 Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow and one of Savoy Magazine’s 2020 Most Influential Black Executives in Corporate America.
Garfield Adams (’01, ’05)
Garfield Adams, Oak Ridge High School principal, is an Oak Ridge native and an ORHS graduate. He earned Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Adams earned an Ed.D. degree in education leadership from Lincoln Memorial University. He taught school for 11 years and has served in school administration for almost 10 year. Adams lives in Oak Ridge with his wife, Aimee, and son Jaxon. His daughter, Micalah, also a product of Oak Ridge schools, lives in Knoxville.
Carol Aebersold (’70)
You’ve heard of Elf of the Shelf . . . but did you know it was created by UT alumna Carol Aebersold (’70)? After graduating with a degree in music education, Carol taught music for many years in Appalachia and across the South. In 2005, she and her twin daughters wrote and created “The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition” after their own family traditions. Since then, more than 12 million Scout Elves have been adopted bringing Christmas cheer to homes around the world!
Asia Allen (’11)
Asia Allen (’11) is a 2021 40 Under 40 winner by @nashvillebiz! A project architect at @gresham_smith, Asia is 1 of only 3 registered and practicing Black women architects in TN and the founder of the National Organization of Minority Architects Nashville Chapter.
Kelly Arnold, MD (’00)
Meet Kelly Arnold (’00), the #VFL bringing quality medical care to Chattanooga’s largely uninsured and underserved Latino community. Kelly is the founder and medical director of Clínica Médicos, which operates on the principle that no one who walks in will ever be turned away. This year she was named Tennessee’s 2020 Family Physician of the Year.
Katherine Barsness (’92)
Katherine Barsness (’92) was recently hired by Baylor College of Medicine as the Chair of Pediatric Surgery in San Antonio, TX. Not only is she nationally known in simulation training for pediatric surgeons, but she is lighting the way for so many.
Leroy Bible (’64)

Stephen Blythe (’16, ’17)
Stephen Blythe (’16, ’17) is L&N STEM Academy’s Teacher of the Year! The #VFL serves as a teacher, club sponsor, and tennis coach.
Pat Branham (’77)
First and foremost, Pat is one of the greatest examples of the ‘Vol Spirit’ I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. A proud alum of UT, she has been a voice for others in her leadership roles. She exudes integrity and delegates with a desire to make others successful. Her degree in Business Administration with a major in Public Administration, was just the start of her educational journey. She was elected to four national honor societies and graduated Magna Cum Laude while also working. Upon moving to the Chattanooga area, she continued her work on her Masters Degree of Education in Community Counseling where she was elected to Who’s Who in Graduate Schools. Pat also obtained a nursing degree. While raising four children, she graduated with the highest of honors and became a mentor and a volunteer tutor for struggling candidates. Pat’s volunteer spirit is alive and well to this day as she volunteers in the Covid Worker’s Group and Covid Zero, both of which are nationally recognized volunteer groups. A frontline hero and a true Vol Great with an everlasting passion for the Orange and White.
Alexandra Carrier (’11)
At UT, Alexandra (Al) Carrier (’11) studied Aerospace Engineering and was a member of the Air Force ROTC program. Upon graduation, she commissioned as a 2nd Lt in the Air Force, graduated at the top of her class in flight training, received her first choice of aircraft, deployed numerous times, and earned a variety of Air Medals and awards. Her volunteer spirit and dedication to her craft has blazed a trail for females in the bomber community.
Recently, she transitioned from the military to a civilian job. Now, she works at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo where she brings a smile to the face of her co-workers, ensures the health and welfare for dozens of animals, and can often be seen in Tennessee Orange on fall Saturdays.
Ryan Childress (’09)
After graduating from UT Ryan Childress (’09) has found success working with Stryker Corporation. As the Southeastern Regional Manager, he lights the way for his entire team.
General Jeffery Coggin (’83)
General Jeffery Coggin (’83) is the commanding General of the United States Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations, commanding over 12,000 military personnel and civilians.

Spruell Driver, Jr. (’87)
Spruell Driver, Jr. (’87) is lighting the way as the first African-American attorney hired by Eastman.
Russ Dunlap (’07)
Russ Dunlap (’07) is lighting the way with his service, helping children navigate our complex immigration system during the pandemic through pro bono work for Kids in Need of Defense (KIND).
Paige Flink (’78)
For over 30 years, Paige Flink (’78) has been leading The Family Place, the largest family violence service provider in Texas. With eight facilities and more than 200 employees by her side, Paige has grown the organization into a national model always putting the client first. Although Paige is retiring in 2021, her passionate voice for victims and tireless fundraising will leave a lasting impact.
Ryan Hove (’04)
Ryan Hove (’04) is changing the lives of kids everyday with his service and leadership as executive director of YMCA Camp Watia in Western North Carolina. This #VFL was selected among applicants across the country to be the very first leader of the youngest YMCA camp in the U.S.
Charles “Chuck” Kinard (’91)
After graduating from UT Knoxville with a degree in Animal Science, Chuck Kinard (’91) graduated from Mississippi State University Vet School as the class’ most outstanding student. Since then, he’s built a tremendous practice in Murfreesboro, TN.
Becca Kubo (’04)
Becca has taken her talents to the classroom…the classroom in her house that is. After teaching elementary school for 4 years, she transitioned home full time when her first child was born. She has had the pleasure of combining her love for education and motherhood as a homeschool teacher since 2015, when her oldest child began kindergarten. She just completed her fifth year homeschooling, and she and her husband Matt have four children ages 3-11. After some time in Florida and Ohio, their family was thrilled to move back to home to Big Orange country in 2012. Becca shared how to choose curriculum, local resources, routines, schedules and more in June when she was featured on “Home Sweet Home” with the Alumni Office.
Samantha Lane (’07)
Since graduation, Samantha Lane (’07) has given her all for UT and those around her. She serves on the UT Knoxville Alumni Chapter board, is a member of Executive Women International (EWI), and started her own small business -Origami Day.

Jennifer Nassar (’07)
As a supervisor at New River Valley Community Services, Jennifer Nassar (’07) lights the way for people with disabilities and consistently makes a difference in her community.
Taylor Presley (’13)
In response to the pandemic, Taylor Presley (’13) established a letter-writing program where people can send personal messages to COVID patients who are isolated in the hospital during the holidays. Taylor and her team set out to “create a safe, personal, and financially accessible way to establish connection in a time when many are forced to be apart from loved ones.” Thank you Taylor for embodying the #VolunteerSpirit during this difficult time!
Katie Riley (’12)
Katie Riley (‘12) is not only lighting the way for girls around the world with her work as director of strategic partnerships for @shesthefirst, she’s also helping those in her own community. When the pandemic began, Katie rallied a group of residents in Queens, NY to support struggling restaurants in the Astoria neighborhood. She created and published the “Astoria at Home Cookbook,” and all proceeds from cookbook sales — more than $13,000 to date — are donated to the Astoria Mutual Aid Network.

Kacy Rodgers (’93)
Kacy Rodgers (’93) is changing the game as the Defensive Line Coach for Super Bowl Champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Thanks to his d-line, the Chiefs never scored a touchdown.
Nolen Rollins (’72)
Nolen Rollins (’72) is an incredible leader and a true Volunteer. He has served in southwest Florida and fifteen different countries, been the president of our Southwest Florida Alumni Chapter, authored multiple books, and made all of the UT Knoxville alumni family proud.
Michael Service (’01)
Captain Michael Service (’01) has served as the leader of various US Navy and Marine Corps medical facilities around the globe. The Vol for Life has been deployed to combat areas, provided medical care, educated military and civilian populations on sustainable healthcare, and kept thousands of troops healthy as they recover from injuries. We cannot thank him enough for his service.
Michael Sipos (’18)
On Christmas morning, alum Michael Sipos (’18) and five fellow officers evacuated people in downtown Nashville before an RV exploded damaging 41 buildings and injuring three people. Thank you Michael and all first-responders for your courage and service!
Eve Thomas (’87)
Police Chief Eve Thomas (’87) embodies the Volunteer spirit as she has served Knoxville Police Department in several capacities over the years. She’s led the way for many officers through her trainings and various committee positions.
Garrett Wagley (’91)
Garret Wagley (’91), is Lighting the Way as CEO and President of Make-A-Wish East Tennessee, which grants life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.
Crystal Wagner (’08)
Crystal is a 2008 graduate from our #2 ranked MFA program in Studio Art with a concentration in Printmaking, and has already established herself as a significant artist with recognition of her work through major exhibitions and commissions both in the United States and abroad.
I. King Jordan (’71, ’73)
While serving in the U.S. Navy, I. King Jordan (’71, ’73) became profoundly deaf as a result of a motorcycle accident. He earned his bachelor degree from Gallaudet University and his masters and PhD from UT. He worked at Gallaudet as a department chairman and dean of the College of Arts and Sciences before making history in 1988 when he became the first deaf president of the university.
He has served as a visiting scholar at universities around the world, holds 12 honorary degrees, has been appointed by multiple U.S. presidents to various committees, serves on six corporate or nonprofit boards, and is the recipient of numerous other awards. There’s no doubt that Dr. Jordan deserves the title of Vol Great.
