Alumni Public Service Award Nomination
Each year the University of Tennessee Alumni Association provides funds for an Alumni Public Service Award of $1,000 to the Knoxville campus. The purpose of the award is to recognize individuals for outstanding achievement in public service and through this recognition, to stimulate the growth and development of the University’s public service role.
As one of the three primary missions of the University, public service includes technical assistance, management assistance, applied research, or other professionally related activities which are undertaken to help federal, state or local government, business, industry, professional organizations, educational institutions (including extraordinary service to The University of Tennessee), or other client groups in the solution of practical problems or in taking advantage of opportunities for improvement. Activities unrelated to professional expertise undertaken in a citizenship role and resulting in service to church and community may also be considered.
Services to The University of Tennessee which are part of normal faculty and staff work, such as student counseling and committee membership, may be considered if such service is deemed to be above and beyond the expected requirements of one’s job description. All full-time faculty and exempt staff of the University are eligible except previous winners and those whose primary job responsibilities are in public service. Faculty and staff members who are nominated for a University of Tennessee Citation for Extraordinary Community Service may be considered for the Alumni Public Service Award. Finalists for the Alumni Outstanding Teacher Award who are not selected as a winner or who have significant public service record as well may be considered. The Alumni Public Service Award recipient will be selected each spring by a selection committee.
The deadline for submissions is March 10, 2025.
