2015 Distinguished Alumnus Award Winner
As president and CEO of McCormick & Company Inc., Alan Wilson moved the company forward through a “comprehensive continuous improvement” program that more than doubled McCormick’s earnings per share before his retirement in 2016.
During the same period, Wilson made comprehensive, continuous contributions to his alma mater. He received the UT Accomplished Alumni Award in 2010 and was a guest lecturer in the College of Communication and Information, where he was the commencement speaker and won the Hileman Distinguished Alumni Award in 2011. He served a two-year term as the inaugural president of the Alumni Board and continues as a member of the Advisory Board of the Haslam College of Business, where he has also been a guest lecturer. Additionally, he serves on the UT Board of Trustees and the UT Foundation Board.
Wilson and his wife, Wendy, have given major gifts to the Center for Career Development in the new Student Union, the College of Communication and Information, the Haslam College of Business, and the Debby Schriver Endowment for Student Orientation.
Wilson, who earned a BS in communication in 1980, attended UT on an ROTC scholarship. After graduation, he served as a US Army captain, completing tours in the US, UK, and Germany.
In nine years at Procter & Gamble, he held progressively responsible positions in product supply, procurement, and manufacturing. After joining McCormick in 1993, Wilson led several different organizations and held many executive roles.
He holds an honorary doctorate in science from the Maryland University of Integrative Health and was named Loyola University’s Business Leader of the Year in 2013.
Currently, Wilson serves on the boards of T. Rowe Price, the WestRock company, and Neolitics. He is also a member of the President’s Advisory Board at Clemson University. In the past, he has served on the boards of directors of the Grocery Manufacturers’ Association, MeadWestvaco Corporation, the Greater Baltimore Committee, and the National Association of Manufacturers.
