YOUNG ALUMNI COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIP
BACKGROUND
The Young Alumni Council was formed in the spring of 2008 with the purpose of fostering an important connection between the University of Tennessee and alumni who have graduated within the last 10 years. The goal of this group is to engage young alumni of the institution’s flagship campus with the university and develop a mutually positive relationship.
In April 2009, the Young Alumni Council launched their first fundraising effort to benefit young alumni and the University of Tennessee. This effort has fostered the Young Alumni Council Scholarship which exists to connect the philanthropic interests of young alumni to the educational mission of the university by providing financial support for the continuing education of a least one young alumnus each year.
CRITERIA
The Young Alumni Council Scholarship recognizes an alumnus who has graduated from the University of Tennessee – Knoxville between May 1999 and May 2009 and will be pursuing a graduate course of study at the University of Tennessee – Knoxville during the 2009-2010 academic year. Scholarship selection will be completed by a committee of the Young Alumni Council members and will be based on the applicant’s academic success, as well as their service to the community and service to the University of Tennessee as evidenced through their leadership and involvement on campus as well as in the community in which they live. To be considered for this award, the applicant must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale).
ELIGIBILITY & CONSIDERATION
In order for your application to be considered, you must comply with the following:
- Have graduated from the University of Tennessee – Knoxville within the last 10 years.
- Be enrolled in graduate school at the University of Tennessee – Knoxville for the 2009-2010 academic year.
- Have a cumulative undergraduate or graduate GPA of 3.0 or better.
- Have completed and thoroughly answered the essay question.
- Have submitted an official transcript along with your application.
- Have submitted an updated resume.
RECOGNITION
1. The winner will receive a $500 scholarship grant to be used for their direct and indirect educational expenses.
2. The winner will be publicly recognized, if they wish, at one Young Alumni event during the year.
3. Award recipients will also receive a commemorative certificate recognizing this accomplishment.
4. Award recipient will have at least one press release prepared and distributed on their behalf.
All scholarship applications must be postmarked no later than June 1, 2009.
