SENIOR GIFT
One of the many traditions at the University of Tennessee is the Senior Gift Challenge. Since its inception in 1991, each graduating class has conducted a fundraising campaign designed to leave a legacy for the students who follow.
During the first twelve years each class identified a physical gift to serve as the centerpiece of the campaign. The Class of 2002 chose to move away from the concept of a physical gift by encouraging students to support scholarships, libraries, academic departments or other areas of interest. This “freedom of choice” has been highly successful, leading to greater student participation.
Contributing to a class project provides students an opportunity to give something back to UT in return for the education they have received. Through this experience, students gain an awareness of the purposes of the Alumni and Development offices. Since the inception, the Senior Gift Challenge has raised more that $300,000 to support campus projects, memorials and special endowments.
