GOLDEN GRADS

2009 Golden Grad Reunion a HUGE Success

Alumni came from as far away as Washington, D.C.; Wilmington, Delaware; Las Vegas, Nevada; and Houston, Texas to participate in the celebration of the Class of 1959 50th Anniversary Celebration.

The weekend began with a reception and tour of the Howard Baker Center for Public Policy where Bob Shelton, Howard Baker Fellow, gave a presentation about the center. Special guest in attendance celebrating her 50th class reunion was Beverly Baker Patestides, sister of Howard Baker Jr. Alumni also enjoyed a performance by the UT Singers and dined on a delicious meal before taking a tour of the facility.

On Friday, alumni had an opportunity to attend classes with students from the Student Alumni Association (SAA). This was the highlight of their weekend. Although not required, an alumnus took a quiz and thought he did quite well. Everyone agreed it was a good experience.

Friday evening, Chancellor Jimmy G. Cheek recognized all Golden Grads in attendance. A special tribute was paid to the class of 1959 alumni celebrating their 50th reunion.

Tours included the new James A. Haslam Business Building, the Allan Jones Aquatic Center, the Sherri Parker Lee Softball Stadium, the Regal Soccer Stadium, and Pratt Pavilion (the basketball practice facility).

Comments:

“I can’t begin to tell you how much I appreciated the Golden Grad Reunion. I had thought re-uniting with former classmates would be the highlight, but it was all the activities, seeing the new buildings, the speakers, attending class and meeting all the SAAs.”

“Doubt that any university does it as well as you do it!”

“My wife and I really enjoyed this program and will be looking forward to next year.”

Look for upcoming details on the Class of 1960 anniversary celebration!
