VOLUNTEER ALUMNI NETWORK

The Volunteer Alumni Network program was organized in the fall of 1984 to involve UT alumni in the recruitment of high ability students. Some surveys have shown that enthusiastic and knowledgeable alumni can have a positive influence on a student’s choice of a college and that personal contacts are preferred by some over brochures, letters, and the internet.

Currently, the VAN program is a joint effort between the UT Office of Alumni Affairs and the UT Office of Undergraduate Admissions with an expanded mission which includes all forms of alumni involvement in recruiting.

Alumni active in VAN have frequently demonstrated leadership while on campus as students and in their communities as alumni or friends. They are good role models for prospective students and are usually outgoing, public-relations oriented individuals who are knowledgeable about the latest trends and events happening on the Knoxville campus. Training is a key element for VAN members with a goal to have a refresher training course available once every five years.
