COLLEGE FAIRS
College Fairs are conducted by national and local organizations in communities nationwide to give prospective students and their families samples of information from many colleges and universities. Typically each university participating in a college fair has a booth and table to display information. Staffing the booth is an important activity that may involve admissions staff, students, and alumni. Participation by alumni in college fairs extends the geographic reach of the university in the recruitment of great students.
Arrangements for volunteers staffing the college fair booths will be made through the Office of Alumni Affairs. Materials will be sent from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
The following are some critical points concerning college fairs:
- Wear business casual attire and remember to show your orange pride.
- Some fairs restrict the number of representatives, usually 2-3 persons per school.
- Please be sure to coordinate with the alumni office.
- Most fairs require that representatives stay behind the table.
- Only distribute new literature that has been provided by the Admissions Office.
- Encourage prospective students to apply to the university but don’t make any promises.
- Emphasize UT’s academic offerings and experiences above all else.
- Never say anything unfavorable about another college or university, doing so would be a violation of the National Association for College Admission Counseling policies.
Essential information to be gathered from prospective students:
